Clive Allum

Clive was born in Brighton (Hove actually). He moved to Wimbledon Park in 1952. Having played tennis since he was 14 in

Sussex this was and continued to be his passion until he met Jan whom he married in 1961. Their first house was in Walton on the

Hill and they have continued to live in Walton and Tadworth during their married life. His working life was spent as a Consulting

Structural Engineer retiring in 1997. His first outing on the bowling green was at Kingsway Club Hove where he and Jan tried it for fun, enjoyed it, and decided it was a sport they could enjoy together. They joined Epsom B.C. in 1991.

Clive has been the Competition Secretary for the Men’s Bowling Committee since 1997.

He qualified for his Surrey County Badge in 2002, reaching the Semi Final of the Surrey Fours with Dave Sowdon,

Stefan Tomm & Peter Pearce.

Clive transferred to Social membership in 2010.

Significant Interests: Epsom B.C., tennis, squash and all sports. Bridge, reading and people.

Sid Bailey

Sid was  Match Secretary of the Men’s Bowling Committee (2007/8).  He was Vice Captain in 2005 & 2006.

Unfortunately Sid had to stand down as Match Secretary in 2010 after suffering a stroke. Sid transferred to Social Membership for 2019.

Clive Banderet

Clive joined Epsom Bowling Club in 1976 and was President in 1996 & 1997.  He was Captain in 1990.

Clive was Match Secretary in 2000/2001/2002 & 2003.  He is a Trustee of the Club.

Clive was Epsom's Delegate for the East Surrey Bowls League from 1986 to 1999 (12 years service).

Clive decided to switch to Social Membership in 2015.

Clive was a member of the successful Yonwin Cup Winners in 1986/1987/1995. Clive lost to Roy Ward in the

Final of the

Ted Pierce Trophy (Sutton & District B.A.) in 1994 therefore, as Runner Up  being awarded the Langham Tankard.

Clive was a member of the team which lost in the Times Herald Final 1990 and he made his debut in the very first

game in the East Surrey League in 1987 and has made over 60 appearances since.  Clive was runner up in the Ember Coronation Cup in 1987 (with W Stevens & B Jenner).

Graham Coleman

Graham joined Epsom Bowling Club in 2016 from Ashtead Bowling Club. He reached the Quarter Finals of the Surrey Two Wood Singles in 2017.  Graham was a member of the squad that won the Chrystie League in 2017 & he was a member of the squad that won the Vilamoura Mixed League in 2017.

Graham reached the Area Finals of the UnBadged Singles in 2018. He was a member of the Yonwin Cup team that lost in the Semi Final in 2018.

Graham is a qualified coach.  Graham qualified for his County Badge in the Unbadged Singles on Friday 17th May 2019 by beating Paul Mahoney from Epsom Park 21 - 19.  He lost in the Quarter Final 15 - 21.

Graham decided to return to Ashtead B C for the 2021 season, but stayed as a Social member at EBC.

Derek Harvey

Derek joined Epsom Bowling Club as a playing member in 2023.  However, because of illness he joined the Social Section.

He was elected Health & Safety Officer in 2024.

 

Peter Humphreys

Peter is a Club Coach. Peter won the Windeler Cup three years in succession - 2007/2008/2009.

Peter transferred to Social in 2017.

Bob Lister

Bob joined the Club in 2007 as a result of attending the Open Day.  He won his first Trophy, the Lower Handicap Singles in 2010. Bob was a member of the squad that won the Chrystie League in 2017.  Bob transferred to Social Membership in 2020.

Jim Martin

Jim joined Epsom Bowling Club as a new bowler in 2014.  He decided to change to Social membership in 2021.

Vic Phillips

 

Vic joined Epsom Bowling Club as a new bowler in 2008.

Vic won his first trophy at Epsom Bowling Club - The Windeler Cup in 2009.  He won his first Club Competition,

the Pairs, in 2009.  Vic was elected on to the Executive Committee as a representative of the Men's Bowling

Section for 2013/14.

Vic transferred to Social Membership in 2019.

Ken Phillpot

 

 

Ken was born in Lambeth- Brixton.  After service in Wartime Bomber and Transport Command rejoined

shipping company in ship operation becoming ship manager in 1959.  This job covered planning a voyage,

calculating cargos to be lifted, time on passage between ports, port charges, where and how much oil bunkers needed,

ordering same and working by wireless instructing the Master of his orders and cabling ahead of of port agents.

He also dealt with cargo claims and crew matters involving illness, accidents, loss of life through negligence,

drink, Act of God etc. sometimes relatives. His final ships he was responsible for were 62,000 tons,

700 feet long and had responsibility for the mail as junior clerk.

Ken can do Pitman's short hand.  Took up bowls in 1984 at Auriol B.C. & was Captain at there during their

25th year.  He is also a life member of Tadworth C.C. where after finishing playing at 56 formed a Supporters

Club as Chairman raising a lot of money to renovate the pavilion, lay on power, and have an extension

built for showers etc. to get something decent to be proud of.  Ken joined Epsom B.C. in 1999.

Ken was 'winner' of the Wooden Spoon in Nobby's Triples in 2010  & 2011.

Ken transferred to Social Membership in 2012.

Significant Interests

Oil Painting, Family History, D.I.Y., and all music having sung in Barbershop Chorus for 8 years reaching UK Finals several years.

George Sperring

 

 

George joined Epsom Bowling Club in 1988.  He was President in 2000 & 2001.  He was Captain in 1994, 1995 & 1996.   He was he Honorary Treasurer for the Men's Section in 2007. He qualified for his Surrey County Badge in 1996, reaching the Quarter Finals of the Surrey Unbadged Singles.  He also reached the Quarter Finals of the Surrey Pairs (with Les Owen) in 2004. 

George is a Qualified National Umpire.  George was a member of the team which won the Walter Cross Trophy in 2007.

For the 2009 season George was elected Vice Captain of the Men's Bowling Section.  George was the Men's Competition Secretary during 2010 - 13.

In 2011 George reached the Area Final of the Surrey Fours (with John Hart, Les Owen & Graham Naish).  George played in his 200th match in the East Surrey League on Sunday 23rd June 2013 (against Purley Bury).  George was a member of the squad that won the East Surrey League in 2015.

George reached the Semi Final of The Arthur Hughes Triples with Bill Sandford and Bill Lawrence in 2004.  He was a member of the team which won the Jubilee Cup in 1995 & 1999, a member of the team which lost in the Final of the Times Herald in 1997 & a member of the team which lost in the Final of the Top 10 in 2000. George was a member of the team that lost in the Final of the Yonwin Cup in 2010 & 2011.

George stood down from being an official in 2014 after many loyal years of service to Epsom Bowling Club. He decided to change to Social Membership in 2021.
