Some more history on the Jubilee Cup

The Tournament was started in 1990/1991 by Roy Ward (current member) but records regarding Epsom Bowling Club are only recorded from 1995. (further research is being made to see if Epsom B C took part in the early years).

The Tournament aimed to give players at Outdoor Clubs who were not members of Indoor Clubs experience of playing Indoors.  Originally the competition involved 3 rinks.  However, in recent years the Tournament has become highly competitive & regularly attracts regular Indoor players.  The format of the Tournament has also changed in recent years. It is now played on a League basis/Semi Final/Final.

Epsom won the Tournament in 1995 by beating Leatherhead in the Final 60 - 49.  Of the current members at Epsom Bowling Club Gill Sperring, Graham Pilbrow, Les Owen, Peter Miller & George Sperring played in this Final.

Epsom B C won again in 1999 by beating Merton Park 83 - 43 and the following appeared in this final - Peter Miller, Jim Scott, George Sperring, Les Owen, Eileen Mills & Gill Sperring.  Epsom lost in the Final in 2002.  In the early years Epsom used to enter 2 teams into the Tournament.

Since 1995 Epsom have played 81 matches, Won 51 & Lost 30.

Vilamoura League

Epsom have joined the above League for 2017.

The Vilamoura Mixed  league was started by Bernard Harding whilst Purley Bowling Club was on tour in Vilamoura, Algarve Portugal  on 4th August 2008.

It then was organised by Derek Harvey into a league with eight participating teams.  In 2010 Carshalton Beeches joined as the ninth member. Epsom are now the 10th.

Recently the committee have gone back to the original ruling that only one badge player can play

(i.e one in the home and one in the away).

John Seymour of Carshalton Bowls club now runs the event.

Several Fixtures for 2017 have already been fixed & the League will be looked after by David Bragg.
