Tom Cheesman Sadly Tom passed away a week or so ago. His funeral will take place on 1st April 2020. Sadly the funeral will go ahead without family & friends. Janet (his wife) who was also a member of Epsom Bowling Club is hoping there will be a memorial service later this year. Tom was at Epsom Bowling Club from the early 70's to 2009. He was the Men's Secretary 1999 - 2006. His Club record:- Won Championship 1981 Fours 1977 Mixed Pairs 1979/1980/1981/1990 Lost Championship 1997 Pairs 2001/2002 Triples 1978 Windeler Cup 1976 Tom was a member of the successful Yonwin Cup Winners in 1980/1985/1987/1995/2003. He was a member of the team which lost in the Final of the Top 10 in 2003. He played his first outside Competition in 1978 in the Yonwin Cup & played a total of 33 games. Tom played 68 matches in the East Surrey League, played 2 games in the EBA (now Bowls England) Top 10 & 2 games in the Top 11. He played 13 times in the EBA Two Fours, 23 times in the Times Herald/Past Times Competition & also played 17 times in the London & Southern Counties Shield. Tom was a very competitive bowler and was a great asset to Epsom Bowling Club. He will be sadly missed by all of us who knew him at Epsom Bowling Club. RIP Tom |

Mole Valley Cup Epsom played Oxshott on Friday 21st February 2020 & won 15 - 10 Details: Sandy Cooper Mick Cooper Marilyn Walsh-Hoye Simon Meller won 15 - 10 Epsom led 8 - 5 after 10 ends & 11 - 7 after 13 ends. On the 14th end Epsom was 4 shots down, but with the last bowl of the end Simon drew an excellent bowl to get the shot. Epsom went on to win by 5 shots. |

Mole Valley Cup Epsom played Ashtead on Friday 14th February 2020 & won 15 - 12. Details: Sandie Harvey Richard Price Trish Southgate Keith Roberts won 15 - 12 Epsom led 6 - 4 after 6 ends, & 9 - 6 after 10 ends. They won by 3 shots. |

Mole Valley Cup Epsom played Leatherhead on Friday 7th February 2020 & lost 13 - 14. Details: Sandy Cooper Marilyn Walsh-Hoye Martin Harbottle Terry Hoye lost 13 - 14 Epsom led 7 - 4 after 5 ends, but were behind 10 - 13 after 15 ends. They lost by 1 shot. |

Jubilee Cup Epsom played their second match in the Round Robin stage of the Jubilee on Thursday 6th February 2020. They won on both rinks & won overall 53 - 12 (6 - 0). Rink 4 Ted Ray Terry Hoye John Warren Les Owen Won 27 - 6 This rink led 17 - 1 after 8 ends & 25 - 4 after 12 ends. They won by 21 shots. Rink 5 Phil Sims Martin Harbottle Peter Miller Jim Scott Won 26 - 6 Epsom led 16 - 0 after 6 ends & 23 - 5 after 12 ends. They won by 20 shots. Final Score: Epsom 53 Auriol 12 Epsom 6 points Auriol 0 points Epsom qualify for the next stages. Did you know Epsom first played in the Jubilee Cup in 1995. Since then they have played 91 matches & won 53. Epsom won the Competition in 1995 & 1999. Of the current members at Epsom Gill Sperring, Graham Pilbrow, Les Owen, Peter Miller & George Sperring were members of the winning team in 1995. Epsom beat Leatherhead 60 - 49. In the 1999 Final success Peter Miller, Jim Scott, George Sperring, Les Owen, Eileen Mills & Gill Sperring played. (Epsom beat Merton Park 83 - 43). |

Spitfire League Epsom played Ashtead & Co on Wednesday 5th February 2020 & won on 1 rink, lost on 2 rinks & lost overall 42 - 48 (2 - 8). After 12 ends across the 3 rinks Epsom led 37 - 28 & 42 - 41 after 15 ends. They lost the game overall by 6 shots. Details: Rink 1 Phil Sims Mick Cooper Marilyn Walsh-Hoye Dickie Day lost 15 - 19 After 12 ends Epsom led 13 - 7, but dropped two 5's to go behind 15 - 17. On the last end Epsom held 4 shots, but the Ashtead & Co skip picked up the jack for 2 shots. Rink 2 David Ganney Sandy Cooper Anne Hoffmann Martin Harbottle won 16 - 12 Epsom was 3 - 8 down after 6 ends, but were level 9 - 9 after 10 ends. They won by 4 shots. Rink 3 Brian Kenyon Sandie Harvey Fred Read Terry Hoye lost 11 - 17 Epsom led 11 - 9 after 10 ends, but lost the remaining ends to lose by 6 shots. Final Score: Epsom 42 Ashtead & Co 48 Epsom 2 points Ashtead & Co 8 points. |

Mole Valley Cup Epsom played East Horsley on Friday 31st January 2020 in the very first game in this Competition. They won 24 - 8. Details: Brian Kenyon Trish Southgate Eileen Mills Peter Miller won 24 - 8 Epsom were losing 3 - 4 after 5 ends, but won the next 6 ends to go 18 - 4 ahead. They went on to win by 16 shots. |

Details: Rink 1 Mick Cooper Eileen Mills Fred Read Terry Hoye lost 12 - 20 Epsom was behind all afternoon. They were 8 - 13 down after 12 ends & lost by 8 shots. Rink 2 Brian Kenyon Phil Sims Marilyn Walsh-Hoye John Warren lost 10 - 20 Epsom led 4 - 3 after 4 ends, but lost the next 8 ends to go 4 - 17 down. They lost by 10 shots. Rink 3 Sandy Cooper Sandie Harvey Pat Buckley Martin Harbottle lost 9 - 24 The scores were level 8 - 8 after 8 ends, but Purley Bury dominated ends 9 - 16 outscoring Epsom 16 - 1 leaving Epsom losing by 15 shots. Jubilee Cup Epsom played their first match in the Round Robin stage of the Jubilee on Monday 2nd December 2019. They won on both rinks & the match 37 - 18 (6 - 0). Details: Rink 4 Keith Roberts Martin Harbottle John Warren won 14 - 13 Unfortunately Epsom played with 1 player short on this rink. However, the led 11 - 6 after 10 ends & won by 1 shot. Rink 5 Stefan Tomm Ted Ray John Huxford Simon Meller won 23 - 5 This was a good win for Epsom on this rink. They led 7 - 4 after 6 ends & won the next 5 ends to go further ahead 20 - 4. They won by 18 shots. Final Score: Epsom 37 Surbiton RBL 18 Epsom 6 points Surbiton RBL 0 points |

Indoor Friendly v Donyngs Epsom played against Donyngs on 3rd November 2019 in a mixed 6 rink Triples match. They won on 2 rink, lost on 4 rinks & lost overall 91 - 117. Despite losing this was a good performance as many Epsom players do not play regularly indoors. Details: Rink 1 Audrey Jones Stefan Tomm Ted Ray won 17 - 12 After 7 ends Epsom was 4 - 7 down, but won the next 6 ends to go 12 - 7 ahead. They kept the lead & won by 5 shots. Rink 2 Brian Kenyon Sylvia Smart John Warren lost 20 - 28 Epsom got off to a bad start finding themselves 3 - 24 down. They won the next 3 ends to be 13 - 24 behind. Over the last 4 ends Epsom outscored Donyngs 7 - 2 & lost by 8 shots. Rink 3 Sandy Cooper David Ganney Terry Hoye won 21 - 14 Epsom held a narrow lead 8 - 7 after 10 ends, but were 14 - 9 ahead after 15 ends. They won by 7 shots. Spitfire League Epsom played their second Spitfire League game against Reigate Priory on Wednesday 30th October 2019 and won on 1 rink, lost on 2 rinks & lost overall 43 - 47 (2 - 8). Details: Rink 4 Brian Kenyon Sandy Cooper Keith Roberts Marilyn Walsh-Hoye lost 12 - 14 Epsom led 5 - 4 after 5 ends, but lost the next 5 ends to go 5 - 10 behind. Epsom scored 3 shots on the last end, but lost by 2 shots. Rink 5 Sandie Harvey Pat Buckley Anne Hoffmann John Warren lost 11 - 17 After 8 ends Epsom trailed 4 - 0, but came within 2 shots, 10 12 on the 12th end. They lost by 6 shots. Rink 6 Mick Cooper Eileen Mills Fred Read Terry Hoye won 20 - 16 Epsom led 8 - 6 after 8 ends, but went behind 8 - 11 on the 11th end. They regained the lead immediately, but went behind again 12 - 16 on the 13th end. However, Epsom won the last 3 ends to win by 4 shots. Spitfire League Epsom played their first Spitfire League game against Purley Bury on Wednesday 9th October 2019 and won on 1 rink, drew on 2 rinks & won overall 57 - 46 (8 - 2). Details: Rink 1 Lesley South Audrey Jones Fred Read Martin Harbottle drew 18 - 18 Epsom led 11 - 7 after 8 ends & 18 - 14 going into the last end. However, they dropped 4 shots to tie the rink. Rink 2 Bob Blaker Keith Roberts Marilyn Walsh-Hoye Dickie Day won 19 - 8 Epsom was 4 - 6 down after 8 ends, but took the lead on the next end with a count of 5. They won ends 11 - 16 scoring a total of 10 shots to win by 11 shots. Rink 3 Sandie Harvey Pat Buckley Terry Hoye John Warren drew 20 - 20 The scores were level 10 - 10 after 8 ends, but Epsom led 19 - 16 after 13 ends.
