Mole Valley Cup

Epsom played Leatherhead in the Final of the Mole Valley Cup on Friday 6th April 2018.  Leading up to qualifying for the Final Epsom had won 4 matches & drawn 1.

Details:  Heather Pigden  Sylvia Smart  Peter Miller  Simon Meller  lost 9 - 16

The scores were level 3 - 3 after 6 ends & again level 8 - 8 after 11 ends.  Epsom lost their way over the remaining ends only scoring 1 more shot eventually losing by 7 shots.

Well done Epsom for reaching the Final

 

Jubilee Cup

Epsom played Supreme in the Semi Final of the Jubilee Cup on Thursday 5th April 2018 and won on one rink, lost on the other & lost overall by 2 shots. Epsom led at 10 ends 21 - 16 & 28 - 24 after 15 ends.  They still had a 2 shot advantage, 31 - 29 after 18 ends, but one rink lost the last 3 ends dropping 7 shots.

Details:

This was an excellent performance on this rink with all 4 players contributing throughout the evening with some very good bowls.  They led 15 - 7 after 12 ends & went on to win by 10 shots.

Rink 3  Bill Lawrence  Keith Roberts  Peter Miller  Simon Meller  lost 12 - 24

This rink was behind for 10 ends, but levelled the scores 9 - 9 on the 11th end.  They only scored 3 more singles finally losing by 12 shots.

Final Result:  Epsom 36  Supreme 38

Jubilee Cup

Epsom played Cuddington in the Quarter Final of the Jubilee Cup on Thursday 29th March 2018 and won on both rinks, winning overall 50 - 26.  This was an excellent performance on both rinks after a great deal of disruption through unavailability & illness.

Details:

Rink 2  Bill Lawrence  Martin Harbottle  John Huxford  Simon Meller  won 22 - 12

After 10 ends Epsom led 11 - 8 & went further ahead 19 - 10 on the 15th end.  Cuddington conceded on the 18th end leaving Epsom winners by 10 shots.

Rink 3  Peter Salmon  Stefan Tomm  John Warren  Jim Scott  won 28 - 14

Epsom started slowly finding themselves 0 - 7 down after just 3 ends.  They were still 4 shots adrift, 10 - 14 after 11 ends, but then won the remaining ends scoring a total of  18 shots without reply.  Cuddington conceded on the 20th end. They won by 14 shots.

Final Result:  Epsom 50  Cuddington 26

Surrey County Indoor Bowling Association
Over 60's Inter County Competition

 Surrey Over 60's travelled to Melton Mowbray on Tuesday 29th March 2018 to play Norfolk

 Surrey lose in the Final 97 - 105

 

Details:

This turned out to be a very close encounter. Surrey lost overall by 8 shots (97 - 105).  Surrey started slowly finding themselves 15 shots adrift (39 – 54) after 10 ends across the 6 rinks. After 85 ends the scores were level 71 – 71 and still level 86 – 86 after 106 ends had been played.  Surrey did take the lead after 95 ends, 81 – 76, but soon lost the lead to eventually go down by 8 shots.  Interestingly Surrey lost 17 shots to 25 (8 shots) over the last 5 ends across the 6 rinks.  They won 2 rinks & lost on 4.

Surrey had a 5 shot advantage, 13 – 8 after 15 ends, but allowed Norfolk back into the game over the remaining ends to lose by 4 shots.

This rink found themselves 1 – 14 behind after 10 ends.  They fought back strongly to be just 3 shots behind, 15 – 18 after 18 ends.  They finally lost by 2 shots. An excellent fight back.

Surrey got stuck on 6 shots for 8 ends finding themselves 6 – 14 down after 10 ends.  They came back well to level the scores 17 – 17 after 16 ends.  They went on to win by 1 shot. Another excellent effort.

 

 

 

East Surrey League Dinner

The East Surrey League Dinner took place at Sutton Bowling Club on Wednesday 21st March 2018.  Bob Blaker, Graham Coleman, Martin Harbottle, John Meningen, Les Owen & John Warren attended.  After the meal John was presented with a Cup & Shield (to be kept by the Club) for Epsom being Runners Up in League Division 1.

Epsom played Ashtead 'A' in the Mole Valley Cup Semi Final on Friday 16th March 2018 & had a comfortable win.

After 6 ends Epsom led 7 - 2 & then won the next 5 ends scoring a total of 10 shots to go ahead 17 - 2.  They went on to win by 17 shots with Ashtead conceding on the 17th end.

The Final takes place on Friday 6th April at 6pm.  Epsom play Leatherhead

After 6 ends Epsom led 7 - 2 & then won the next 5 ends scoring a total of 10 shots to go ahead 17 - 2.  They went on to win by 17 shots with Ashtead conceding on the 17th end.

The Final takes place on Friday 6th April at 6pm.

Epsom played Cheam in the third game of the Jubilee Cup on Thursday 8th March 2018 and won on 1 rink, lost on the second and won overall 28 - 20.  Epsom qualify for the Quarter Final.

Details:

Rink 4  Peter Salmon  Keith Roberts  John Warren  Les Owen  lost 12 - 13

After 6 ends Epsom was 1 - 5 down, but scored on the next 4 ends to go 9 - 5 ahead.  They dropped 4 shots on the 11th end & went behind 9 - 10 on the 12th end.  Going into the last end Epsom was 2 shots behind, but only managed 1 on the last end to lose by just 1 shot.

Rink 5  David Bragg  Phil Sims  Peter Miller  Simon Meller  won 16 - 7

After 4 ends Epsom was 1 - 2 down, but scored 10 shots over the next 3 ends to go ahead 11 - 2. They continued to dominate the game finally winning by 9 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 28  Cheam 20

Epsom played Ashtead in the Mole Valley Cup at Mole Valley IBC on Friday 16th February 2018 and won 23 - 7.

After 7 ends Epsom led 6 - 4 and then won the next 5 ends scoring a total of 15 shots to go ahead 21 - 4.  They went on to win by 16 shots.

Epsom played Chessington 'A' in the second game of the Jubilee Cup on Monday 12th February 2018 and won on 1 rink, drew on the other and won overall 24 - 14.

After 5 ends Epsom led 5 - 2 & 9 - 7 after 10 ends.  On the 11th end they scored 4 shots & went on to win by 6 shots.

Rink 3  Peter Salmon  Keith Roberts  John Warren  Les Owen  drew 10 - 10

Epsom led 6 - 1 after 5 ends & 10 - 5 after 10 ends.  However, they allowed Chessington to get back into the game losing the last 4 ends.

Final Score:  Epsom 24  Chessington 'A' 18

Epsom played Bookham in the Mole Valley Cup at Mole Valley IBC on Friday 9th February 2018 and won 19 - 14.

After 6 ends the scores were level, but Epsom went ahead 16 - 9 after 10 ends.  They went on to win by 5 shots.

 

Spitfire League

Epsom played Monotype in the Spitfire League at Donyngs on Wednesday 7th February 2018 and won on 2 rinks, lost the 3rd & lost overall 38 - 46 (4 - 6).  Epsom fail to qualify narrowly for the quarter finals.

Epsom led throughout this rink.  They led 8 - 7 after 12 ends & won by 3 shots.

Rink 5  Brain Kenyon  Sylvia Smart  Derek Hoffmann  Roy Ward  lost 6 - 25

This rink struggled finding themselves 5 - 13 down after 12 ends & finally lost by 19 shots.

Rink 6  Bill Lawrence  Pat Buckley  Anne Hoffmann  Martin Harbottle  won 20 - 12

Epsom led by 2 shots (11 - 9) after 12 ends & went on to win by 8 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 38  Monotype 46   Epsom 4 points  Monotype 6 points

 

Mole Valley Cup

Epsom played Hook & Southborough in the Mole Valley Cup at Mole Valley IBC on Friday 2nd February 2018 and won 16 - 8.

Details:

After 6 ends Epsom was 3 - 5 down, but won the next 5 ends to go ahead 11 - 5.  On the 15th end they were 13 - 8 ahead and scored 3 more shots over the last two ends to win by 8 shots.

 

Mole Valley Cup

Epsom played Leathehead in the Mole Valley Cup at Mole Valley IBC on Friday 26th January 2018 and drew 16 - 16.

This was a very good result as Leatherhead won the Competition last year.

This was certainly a game of two halves.  Epsom found themselves 4 - 14 down after 10 ends, but came back strongly winning 7 of the last 8 ends to secure a draw.

Spitfire League

Epsom played Warlingham Park in the Spitfire League at Donyngs on Wednesday 24th January 2018 and won on 2 rinks, drew the 3rd & won overall 46 - 29 (9 - 1).

Details:

Rink 4  Brian Kenyon  Sylvia Smart  Derek Hoffmann  Roy Ward  won 16 - 5

Epsom dominated this game allowing Warlingham Park to score on only 3 ends.  They led 11 - 4 after 10 ends going on to win by 11 shots.

Rink 5  Stefan Tomm  Keith Roberts  Eileen Mills  Peter Miller  won 19 - 13

After 7 ends Epsom was 2 - 11 down, but won the next 5 ends scoring a total of 13 shots to go ahead 15 - 11.  They won by 6 shots.

Rink 6  Bill Lawrence  Pat Buckley  Anne Hoffmann  Martin Harbottle  drew 11 - 11

Epsom led 7 - 5 after 10 ends, but going into the last end they were 2 shots adrift.  They managed to score the two shots for a draw.

Final Result:  Epsom 46  Warlingham Park 29   Epsom 9 points  Warlingham Park 1 point

 

Jubilee Cup

Epsom played Supreme 'B' in the first game of the Jubilee Cup on Monday 15th January 2018 and won on 1 rink, lost on the other and won overall 28 - 27.

Details:

Rink 4  Keith Roberts  Simon Meller  Peter Miller  Les Owen  won 17 - 14

Epsom started well going into a 10 - 0 lead after just 5 ends.  They went further ahead 17 - 4 after 10 ends, but then allowed Supreme back into the game.  Epsom won by 3 shots.

Rink 5  Phil Sims  David Bragg  John Warren  Jim Scott  lost 11 - 13

This was a close game with Epsom leading 11 - 7 after 10 ends.  However, Supreme won the remaining ends to snatch a 2 shot win.

Final Score:  Epsom 28  Supreme 'B' 27

Phil Sims played his very first game for Epsom Bowling Club in this Competition.

Epsom played at Mole Valley in a Mixed Friendly on Sunday 3rd December 2017 & won on 1 rink, lost on 3 rinks & the match 62 - 86.

Epsom played at against Caterham on Wednesday 15th November 2017 in their second match in the Spitfire League.  They won on 1 rink, lost on 2 rinks & lost overall 52 - 56 (2 - 8).

Epsom started really well going into a 16 - 9 lead after 10 ends.  However, Caterham won the last 6 ends scoring a total of  18 shots leaving Epsom losing by 11 shots.

This was a very good win for Epsom on this rink.  They led 12 - 4 after 10 ends & went on to win by 13 shots.

Rink 3  Ruth Nixon  Pat Buckley  Derek Hoffmann  Martin Harbottle  lost 13 - 19

Epsom trailed 8 - 14 after 10 ends & lost by 6 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 52  Caterham 56  Epsom 2 points  Caterham 8 points

Epsom played at Horsham in a Mixed Friendly on Wednesday 8th November 2017 lost on all 4 rinks & the match 51 - 85.

Details:

Rink 4  Brian Kenyon  Guest Stefan Tomm  lost 14 - 20

Epsom held Horsham for 11 ends when the scores were level 10 - 10.  They lost by 6 shots.

Rink 5  Audrey Jones  Guest  Keith Roberts  lost 15 - 17

This rink was also level after 11 ends, 8 - 8 and fought well for the rest of the game losing by just 2 shots.

Rink 6  Roy Ward  Mike James  Graham Coleman  lost 10 - 32

Epsom struggled on this rink losing by 22 shots.

Rink 7  Jim Martin  Guest  Fred Read  lost 12 - 16

Epsom led 12 - 10 after 15 ends, but lost by 3 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 51  Horsham 85

 

Indoor Friendly

Epsom played at Donyngs in a Mixed Friendly on Sunday 5th November 2017 and won on 1 rink, lost on the other 2 and lost the match 47 - 56. This was another good performance despite losing on two rinks.

After 10 ends Epsom was just 1 shot behind, 9 - 10, but fell away in the last 8 ends to lose by 8 shots.

After 10 ends Epsom had a healthy lead 15 - 4, but Donyngs had the better of the rest of the afternoon.  However, Epsom scored 5 shots on the 17th end to go on to win by 10 shots.

Rink 6  Brian Kenyon  Sylvia Smart  Anne Hoffmann  lost 12 - 23

Trailing by just one shot, 6 - 7 after 8 ends Epsom then dropped a count of 6 and did not seem to recover.  They lost by 11 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 47  Donyngs 56

 

Indoor Friendly

Epsom played at Donyngs in a Mixed Friendly on Saturday 14th October 2017 and won on 1 rink, lost on the other 2 and lost the match 50 - 71. The match was reduced to 2 Triples & 1 rink as one of Epsom's team was taken ill.

Epsom led all afternoon.  This was a good performance as they played against 4 Donyngs players.  They led 17 - 14 after 15 ends & won by 6 shots. (no reduction was made in the scores because 3 played 4).

Rink 2  Audrey Jones  Ron Snow  Ruth Nixon  Peter Humphreys  lost 15 - 24

Epsom struggled on this rink losing by 9 shots.

Rink 3  Bill Lawrence  Jim Martin  Stefan Lukatschat  lost 10 - 28

A similar story to rink 2 here with Epsom losing by 18 shots.

Indoor Spitfire League

Epsom played at against Purley Bury on Wednesday 11th October 2017 in their first match this season in the Spitfire League.  This is played at Donyngs Indoor Bowling Club.  They lost on all 3 rinks.

After 8 ends Epsom was 4 - 10 behind and lost the second half 6 - 8 to lose by 8 shots.

After 8 ends Epsom was 4 - 12 down and lost by 12 shots.

Rink 6  Brian Kenyon  Audrey Jones  Peter Humphreys  Phil Sims  lost 10 - 17

After 8 ends the scores were level 7 - 7, but Epsom went on to lose by 7 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 30  Purley Bury 57   Epsom 0 points  Purley Bury 10 points
