Windeler Cup
The Windeler Cup
was presented by Mr B C Windeler in 1927. The Cup is silver &
hallmarked Birmingham 1926. The original competition was
Fours, but in recent years it has been a Triples Competition.
The first recorded results was in 1960. No mention of this
Competition has been found in previous years minutes or records.

This years
Windeler Cup was played on Monday 31st May 2021. 4 teams formed
group A & 4 groups formed group B.

teams B & the winners of section A played the winners of section
B in the Final.

John's team were 1 - 2 down, but scored 3 shots on the next end

East Surrey League - Men
Epsom Men played
their 3rd League match of the season at home against Horley on Saturday
29th
May 2021 & won on 2 rinks, lost on 1 rink & won overall 66 -
60 (8 - 2). Epsom led by 8 shots across the 3 rinks after 15
ends, but there was only 1 shot in it after 18 ends 55 - 54.
Epsom won by 6 shots.

Epsom
started well & went into a 16 - 4 led after 12 ends.
However, they lost the next 7 ends with the scores ending up
level 16 - 16. Epsom won the last 2 ends to win by 3
shots.
Rink 3
Derek Martin Geoff Purrott Bob Blaker Peter Miller lost 21
- 25
After 10
ends Epsom was 12 - 15 behind, but were only 1 shot down on the
15th end (16 - 17). Horley won 4 of the remaining ends leaving
Epsom losing by 4 shots.
Rink 5 Howard Ellis Ted Ray John Warren Jim Scott
won 26 - 19
Epsom led 16 - 10 after after 10 ends & 22 - 13 after 15 ends.
They went on to win by 7 shots.
Final Score: Epsom 66 Horley 60 Epsom 8 points

Men's Friendly Match v Purley
Epsom travelled to
Purley on Thursday 27th May 2021 and won on two rinks, lost on
two rinks & won overall 65 - 53. This was a Triples match.
Details:
Rink 2 Brian Kenyon Fred Read Terry Hoye won 21 - 8
Epsom led 14 - 5 after 9 ends & won 6 of the remaining ends to
win by 13 shots.
Rink 3 David Fearn John Hart Les Owen lost 13 - 17
The scores were level 10 - 10 after 10 ends, but Epsom lost by 4
shots.
Rink 4 Derek Martin Richard Price Bob Blaker lost 12
- 15
This rink were 3 - 8 down after 9 ends & lost 3 shots.
Rink 5 Phil Sims Mick Cooper Martin Harbottle won 19
- 13
Epsom led 12 - 5 after 9 ends & 18 - 9 after 15 ends. They
won by 6 shots.
Final Score: Epsom 65 Purley 53

Ladies League v Purley Bury
Epsom Ladies travelled to
Purley Bury on Saturday 22nd May 2021 to play their second
League match of the season &
lost on both rinks & the match 15 - 56 (0 - 4).

Ladies Friendly v Malden Manor
Epsom Ladies travelled to
Malden Manor to play their second Friendly match of the season &
after getting started the rain/storm came & the match was
abandoned.
Epsom Ladies had
won the last 5 games against Malden Manor. Their best win
came in 2016 when they won 42 - 23.

East Surrey League - Men
Epsom Men played
their 2nd League match of the season against Sutton on Saturday
15th May 2021 & won on all 3 rinks, winning 72 - 37 (10 - 0).
After losing last week to Purley Bury this was an excellent win
against a very strong Sutton side.

Hoye John Warren Jim Scott won 19 - 9
The scores were level 4 - 4 after
8 ends, Epsom won the next 6 ends to go 12 - 4 ahead. Sutton
only scored on 4 more ends and Epsom won by 10 shots.
Rink 3 Derek Martin Martin
Harbottle Peter Miller Terry Berry won 26 - 16
The scores were level 10 - 10
after 12 ends, but Epsom were ahead 16 - 13 on the 15th end.
They finished strongly scoring 5 shots on the last end to win by
10 shots.
Rink 5 David Bragg Keith Roberts Andrew Turnbull Les Owen
won 27 - 12
Epsom got off to a strong start when they led 14 - 2 after 6
ends. They lost the next 5 ends, but still led by 4 shots (14 -
10). Epsom also finished strongly on this rink & won by 15
shots.

Bowls England Two Fours
Epsom Men
travelled to Purley Bury to play in the B E Two Fours on Tuesday
11th May 2021 and won on 1 rink, lost on the second & lost
overall 31 - 34. (New B E rules - 15 ends to be played).

The scores were level 9 - 9 after
7 ends & still level 13 - 13 after 11 ends. Epsom dropped 5
shots on the 12th end, but scored 6 shots over the remaining 3
ends to win by 1 shot.

lost 12 - 16
Epsom were 3 - 11 down after 9 ends & 8 - 14 behind after 12
ends. They lost by 4 shots.

Captain v President
The Annual match
between the Captain's Team & the President's team took place on
Monday 10th May 2021.
Because of Covid
10 restrictions only 24 players could play on the green.
The match was made
up of 4 teams for the Captain & 4 teams for the President. They
played 4 ends & then moved to another rink to play another team.
16 ends were played in total. Prizes were awarded to the
winning Captain & President rinks.
Final Result:
Captain's Team 55 President's team 62. |

Epsom Men played
their first League match of the season against Purley Bury on
Saturday 8th May 2021. They lost on all 3 rinks losing 48
- 58 (0 - 10). Epsom were leading across the 3 rinks 30 - 20
after 10 ends & 42 - 36 after 15 ends. However, Purley Bury came
back strongly over the 3 rinks with Epsom losing by 10 shots.

Epsom led 9 - 8 after 10 ends,
but went behind 10 - 15 on the 14th end. They lost by 5
shots.

Andrew Turnbull Les Owen lost 14 - 17
This was a game of two halves
with Epsom leading 14 - 8 after 13 ends. However, they
lost all the remaining ends to lose by 3 shots.
Rink 5 Howard Ellis Terry Hoye John Warren Jim Scott
lost 18 - 20
Epsom led 10 - 6 after 10 ends & still led 17 - 16 on the 18th
end. Going into the last end Epsom led 18 - 17, but
dropped 3 shots to lose by 2.

Ladies Friendly v Supreme
Epsom Ladies
travelled to Supreme to play their very first match Friendly of
the season & won on 1 rink, lost on the second and lost overall
36 - 42.

Epsom led 6 - 2 after 6 ends, but lost the next 7 ends to go 6 -
17 down. They lost by 18 shots.

won 26 - 14
Epsom had an excellent lead, 18 - 6 after 10 ends & continued to
keep ahead & won by 12 shots.
Final Score: Epsom 36 Supreme 42
Liz Hind played
her first Friendly match for Epsom Bowling Club.

Ladies ESLL v Chipstead
Epsom travelled to
Chipstead to play their very first match of the season & won on
1 rink, lost on 1 rink, but won overall 45 - 33 (3 - 1).

Epsom were 11 - 6 ahead after 10
ends & won the next 8 ends to go further ahead 21 - 6.

Epsom were 9 - 11 down after 10 ends, but took the lead 15 - 12
on the 15th end. They went behind on the next end dropping 4
shots. They lost by 3 shots.

Men's Friendly Match v Chipstead
Epsom played at
home on Sunday 2nd May 2021 against Chipsted and won on 2 rinks,
lost on 1 rink & lost overall 41 - 44.

Epsom were behind all afternoon
on this rink. They were 5 - 15 down after 10 ends & lost
by 13 shots.

Epsom were level 10 - 10 after 9
ends, but immediately went behind losing the next 2 ends.
Going into the last end they were level once again and scored 3
shots to win by 3.

Epsom went behind 7 - 9 on the 9th end on this rink, but then
won the next 5 ends to go ahead 17 - 9. They won by 7
shots.

Mixed Match
Epsom began the
2021 season with a mixed match against Reigate Priory.
They won on 2 rinks, lost on 2 rinks & won overall 74 - 63.
Details:
Rink 1 Mick Cooper Mary Green Bob Blaker won 19 - 16
Epsom led throughout this game. They led 11 - 7 after
10 ends and won by 3 shots.
Rink 2 Liz Hind Frank Thompson Trish Southgate
lost 14 - 16
Epsom led 11 - 6 after 10 ends, but went behind 12 - 13 on the
15th end. They lost by 2 shots.
Rink 3 Trevor Allery Sandie Harvey Brian Collis
lost 15 - 21
Epsom was behind all afternoon. They trailed 3 - 14 after
10 ends, but came back well to lose by 6 shots.
Rink 4 Ted Ray Sandy Cooper Andrew Turnbull won 26 -
10
This was a good performance by Epsom on this rink. They
led 16 - after 10 ends and won by 16 shots.
Final Score: Epsom 74 Reigate Priory 63

Roy Ward
Roy had another fall a few weeks ago when he cracked some
ribs & hurt bones in his spine. He has been in St Heliers
Hospital and hated it. He has made the decision to go into
a care home in Bognor Regis so he can have 24/7 care and be near
his family.
Roy passes on his best wishes to everyone - you have all
played a huge part in his life and his happiest times.
This Website will be updated with more information on his
wellbeing later.
