Men's Friendly v Reigate Priory

Epsom Men started the season with an excellent win against Reigate Priory on Saturday 29th April 2017.  They won on all 4 rinks & the match 109 - 46.

Details:

Rink 1  Stefan Tomm  Vic Phillips  Andrew Turnbull  John Meningen  won 34 - 12

After 8 ends this rink was level 8 - 8, but went behind on the next end.  Epsom then won the next 8 ends scoring a total of 24 shots to take a commanding lead 32 - 9.  They went on to win by 22 shots.

Rink 2  Dave Pearce  Howard Ellis  Bob Blaker  Martin Harbottle  won 30 - 9

Epsom dominated this rink from the start.  They led 16 - 4 after 10 ends, 19 - 7 after 15 ends finally winning by 21 shots.

Rink 3  Bill Lawrence  Derek Hoffmann  Geoff Purrott  John Huxford  won 22 - 11

This was a similar story to rink 2 with Epsom leading 16 - 5 after 10 ends. They still had a good lead, 17 - 9 after 15 ends and won by 11 shots.

Rink 4  Brian Kenyon  Mike James  Stefan Lukatschat  Les Owen  won 23 - 14

The scores were level 7 - 7 after 9 ends on this rink, but Epsom had the better of the next 8 ends outscoring Reigate Priory 15 - 1 to go ahead 22 - 8. This rink went on to win by 9 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 109   Reigate Priory 46

Dave Pearce & Stefan Lukatschat played in their very first match for Epsom Bowling Club.

 

Indoor Friendly match v Donyngs

Epsom played Donyngs in a Friendly match on 1st April 2017 & won on 2 rinks, lost on 1 rink and won overall 79 - 52.

Details:

Rink 4  Brian Kenyon  Stefan Tomm  Eileen Mills  Martin Harbottle  won 25 - 21

After 10 ends Epsom was 7 - 13 down, but then scored a total of 16 shots over the next 5 ends to go ahead 23 - 13.  Donyngs had the edge over the remaining ends , but Epsom held on to win by 4 shots.

Rink 5  Anne Hoffmann  Sylvia Smart  Derek Hoffmann  John Warren  won 36 - 3

Epsom raced into a 13 - 2 lead after 10 ends & totally dominated the rest of the game going on to win by 33 shots.

Rink 6  John Hart  Audrey Jones  Keith Roberts  Phil Sims  lost 18 - 28

After 10 ends Epsom found themselves 4 - 13 adrift and despite picking up 5 shots on end 14 they were soundly beaten by 10 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 79   Donyngs 52

 

Jubilee Cup

Epsom played Southey in the Quarter Finals of the Jubilee Cup on Thursday 16th March 2017 and lost on both rinks & the match 34 - 39.  This was a very good performance against a very good Southey team.

Details:

Rink 2  David Bragg John Meningen  John Warren  Jim Scott  lost 19 - 23

Epsom got off to a very good start and led 10 - 4 after 8 ends.  However, Southey came back well and levelled the scores 11 - 11 after 13 ends.  Going into the 18th end Epsom were 15 - 18 down, but dropped 5 shots which turned the game around.  Epsom fought hard over the last few ends, but lost by 4 shots.

Rink 3  Peter Salmon John Huxford  Simon Meller  Les Owen  lost 15 - 16

This was, as the score suggests, a very close game.  After 11 ends the scores were level 7 - 7 and still level 10 - 10 after 15 ends.  Epsom dropped 4 shots on end 16 and just like rink 2 fought back well over the remaining ends.  Going into the last end Epsom needed 6 shots to win the match overall and after a no end they managed to get 1 shot to lose narrowly by just 1 shot.
