Vilamoura Mixed League

Epsom played against Chipstead on Tuesday 30th June 2026. They won at home, lost away & won overall 35 - 34 (4 - 2)After 9 ends across the 2 rinks Epsom were 14 - 20 down & 4 shots behind (23 - 27) on ends 15.  They outscored Chipstead 12 shots to 7 to win by 1 shot.

Details:

Home: Janet Newman John Wellard Trish Southgate won 25 - 16

Epsom led 11 - 6 after 9 ends & 15 - 11 on end 15.  They dropped 5 shots on end 17, but came back well to score a count of 6 on the final end to win by 9 shots.

Away: Elaine Coe Fred Read Phil Sims lost 10 - 18

Epsom were 3 - 14 down after 9 ends & 8 - 16 behind on end 15.  They lost by 8 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 35  Chipstead 34  Epsom 4 points  Chipstead 2 points.

John Wellard played in his first Vilamoura Mixed League match for Epsom Bowling Club.

 

Chrystie League

Epsom played away against Esher on Monday 29th June 2026. They won on both rinks & the match 35 - 22 (4 - 0). After 9 ends across both rinks Epsom led 16 - 11 & went on to win by 13 shots. (Rink 3 for Esher only had 3 players - their lead & 2 played with 3 bowls & 25% was taken off their final score).

Details:

Rink 2  Don Indran Nick Rowan John Hart Phil Sims  won 17 - 14

The scores were level 6 - 6 after 9 ends, 12 - 12 on end 15 & still level 14 - 14 going into the last end.  Epsom scored 3 shots on end 18 to win by 3 shots.

Rink 3  Dennis King James Henderson Mick Cooper David Fearn  won 18 - 8

Epsom led 10 - 5 after 9 ends & 15 - 10 on end 15.  As Esher only had 3 players Epsom won by 10 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 35 Esher 22 Epsom 4 points Esher 0 points

 

Ladies' Smiths League

Epsom ladies played against Chessington on Monday 29th June 2026. They won at home, lost away & won overall 27 - 23 (3 - 2).  After 9 ends across both rinks Epsom led 18 - 9 & were 4 shots ahead (22 - 18) on ends 15.  They won by 4 shots.

Details:

Home: Lynn Phillips Mary Green Frances Suttonwood won 15 - 8

Epsom led 9 - 3 after 9 ends & 11 - 6 on end 15.  They won by 7 shots.

Away: Liz Hind Elaine Coe Annette Jordan lost 12 - 15

Epsom led 9 - 6 after 9 ends & the scores were level 12 - 12 on end 16.  Epsom lost the last 2 ends to lose by 3 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 27  Chessington 23  Epsom 3 points  Chessington 2 points

 

East Surrey League

Epsom played away against Croydon on Sunday 20th June 2026. They won on 1 rink, lost on 2 rinks & lost overall 54 - 55 (2 - 8). After 9 ends across the 3 rinks Epsom led 35 - 25 & were 6 shots ahead (50 - 44) on ends 15.  They were outscored 4 - 11 over the last 3 ends to lose by 1 shot.

Epsom led 17 - 8 after 9 ends & 24 - 12 on end 15.  They won by 15 shots.

Rink 3  Roger Jackson John Wellard John Hart Les Owen  lost 12 - 26

Epsom were 8 - 10 down after 9 ends & 12 - 20 behind on end 15.  They lost by 14 shots.

Rink 4  Stefan Tomm Mick Cooper Bob Blaker Norman Mann  lost 14 - 16

Epsom led 10 - 6 after 9 ends & 14 - 8 on end 14.  They lost the last 4 ends to lose by 2 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 54  Croydon 55  Epsom 2 points  Croydon 8 points.

 

Ladies Friendly

Epsom played at home against Cuddington on Thursday 18th May 2026. They won on 1 rink, lost on 1 rink & won overall 24 - 23. After 7 ends across the 2 rinks Epsom were 5 - 14 down, but came back well to win by 1 shot (15 ends played).

Details:

Epsom were 2 - 9 down after 7 ends & lost by 3 shots.

Rink 2  Janet Newman Lynn Philips Christine Summerfield  won 12 - 8

Epsom were 3 - 5 down after 7 ends & 7 - 8 behind on end 12.  They won the last 3 ends to win by 4 shots.

Final Score: Epsom 24  Cuddington 23

 

Ladies' Smiths League

Epsom ladies played their second Smiths League game against Malden Manor on Tuesday 16th June 2026. They won at home & away & won overall 37 - 26 (5 - 0). After 9 ends across the 2 rinks Epsom were 10 - 13 down, but led by 6 shots (28 - 22) on ends 15.  They won by 11 shots.

Home: Penny Payne Elaine Coe Mary Green  won 16 - 13

Epsom were 5 - 7 down after 9 ends, but led 12 - 10 on end 15.  They won by 3 shots.

Away: Sandy Cooper Trish Southgate Christine Summerfield  won 21 - 13

Epsom were 5 - 6 down after 9 ends, but led 16 - 12 on end 15.  They won by 8 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 37  Malden Manor 26  Epsom 5 points  Malden Manor 0 points

 

Men's Friendly

Epsom played away against Leatherhead on Tuesday 16th June 2026. They won on 2 rinks, lost on 1 rink & won overall 53 - 52. Epsom led 23 - 19 after 9 ends across the 3 rinks & by 7 shots (47 - 40) on ends 15. Rink 5 were last to finish & going into the last end the scores were level 52 - 52. With the very last bowl of the match Bob drew the shot to enable Epsom to win by 1 shot overall.

Epsom were 4 - 10 down after 9 ends, but drew level 11 - 11 on end 12.  They lost 5 of the last 6 ends to lose by 12 shots.

Rink 4  Roger Jackson Frank Thompson Les Owen  won 20 - 15

Epsom led 6 - 4 after 7 ends, but lost the next 6 ends to go 6 - 13 behind.  They scored 2 5's over the next 2 ends to lead 16 - 13.  They won by 5 shots.

Rink 5  Barry Coe David Tinney Bob Blaker  won 21 - 13

Epsom led 13 - 2 after 9 ends & 20 - 9 on end 15.  They won by 8 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 53  Leatherhead 52

 

East Surrey League - Top Club

Epsom played at home against Croydon on Sunday 14th June 2026. They won the Triples & Fours, lost both singles & the pairs and lost overall 2 - 3.

Details:

Singles: David Fearn  lost 12 - 21

David led 11 - 10 after 10 ends, but lost the next 6 ends to go 11 - 19 down.  He lost 12 - 21 after 18 ends.

Two Wood: Keith Roberts lost 14 - 17

Keith was 6 - 8 down after 8 ends & 11 - 15 behind on end 17.  He lost by 3 shots after 20 ends.

Pairs: Roger Jackson Les Owen  lost 13 - 21

Epsom were 7 - 10 down after 9 ends & 12 - 13 behind on end 13.  They lost by 8 shots.

Triples: John Wellard John Warren Martin Harbottle  won 20 - 11

Epsom led 15 - 3 after 9 ends, lost the next 4 ends but still led 15 - 8.  They won by 9 shots.

Fours: Phil Sims John Hart Bob Blaker Norman Mann won 21 - 18

Epsom were 8 - 15 down after 11 ends, but won the next 6 ends to lead 20 - 15.  They won by 3 shots.

Final Score: Epsom 2 Croydon 3

Roger played in his first game in this Competition.

 

Mixed Friendly

Epsom played away against Bookham on Saturday 13th June 2026 and won on 2 rinks, drew on 1 rink, lost on 1 rink & lost overall 63 - 66. After 9 ends across the 4 triples Epsom led 34 - 29 & were 6 shots ahead (59 - 53) on ends 15.  They were outscored by Bookham 4 - 13 over the last 3 ends and lost by 3 shots.

Epsom were 8 - 12 down after 9 ends & 11 - 23 behind on end 15.  They lost by 14 shots.

Rink 3  Lynn Phillips Roger Jackson Annette Jordan  won 20 - 10

Epsom led 12 - 3 after 9 ends & 20 - 6 on end 15.  They lost the last 3 ends & won by 10 shots.

Rink 4  Elaine Coe Richard Price Phil Sims drew 17 - 17

Epsom led 10 - 5 after 9 ends & 17 - 12 on end 15.  They lost the last 3 ends and tied the rink.

Rink 5  Barry Coe John Wellard Christine Summerfield won 14 - 13

Epsom were 4 - 9 down after 9 ends & 11 - 12 behind on end 15.  They won the last 2 ends to win by 1 shot.

Final Score:  Epsom 63  Bookham 66

Karen played in her first mixed match for Epsom Bowling Club.

 

Men's Friendly

Epsom played at home against Chessington on Wednesday 10th June 2026. They won on 1 rink, lost on 2 rinks & lost overall 42 - 57.

Epsom played away a Leatherhead on Monday 8th June 2026. They lost on both rinks & the match 20 - 56 (0 - 4).

Epsom played at home against Croydon MO's on Sunday 7th June 2026. They lost on all 3 rinks & the match 40 - 64 (0 - 10). After 9 ends across the 3 rinks Epsom were 21 - 32 down & 23 shots behind (33 - 56) on ends 15.  They lost by 24 shots.

Epsom led 12 - 2 after 6 ends, but lost the next 6 ends to be 12 - 20 down.  They lost by 11 shots.

Epsom led 10 - 7 after 11 ends, but were 12 - 13 down on end 15.  They went into the last end 12 - 15 down & scored 2 shots to lose by 1 shot.

Epsom were 3 - 16 down after 9 ends & 6 - 20 behind on end 15.  They lost by 12 shots.

Did you know

John Hart played his 200th game in this League & Martin reached 300 appearances. Martin becomes the 3rd member to play in 300+ matches (Peter Miller, ex member, 319 & Les Owen 312).

Epsom played away against Esher on Sunday 7th June 2026. They won on all 3 triples & the match 58 - 27. After 9 ends across the 3 rinks Epsom were 15 - 21 down, but led by 20 shots (45 - 25) on ends 15.  They won by 31 shots.

Epsom were 6 - 7 down after 9 ends, but led 12 - 8 on end 15.  They won by 3 shots.

Rink 5  Penny Payne David Tinney Frances Suttonwood  won 21 - 7

Epsom were 4 - 7 down after 9 ends & won all the remaining ends to win by 14 shots.

Final Score: Epsom 58  Esher 27

Bowls England Top Club

Epsom played at home against Leatherhead in the Bowls England Top Club on Thursday 4th June 2026. They lost 2 - 3.  Epsom won the Two wood Singles & Pairs & lost the Singles, Triples & Fours.

Details:

Singles: Keith Roberts lost 11 - 21

Keith was 3 - 12 down after 9 ends & 9 - 15 behind on end 15.  He lost by 10 shots after 19 ends.

Two Wood: Stefan Tomm won 17 - 7

Stefan was 10 - 2 ahead after 9 ends & 13 - 7 in the lead on end 15.  He won by 10 shots after 17 ends.

Pairs: Roger Jackson Les Owen  won 20 - 12

Epsom led 8 - 7 after 9 ends & 16 - 12 on end 15. They won the last 3 ends to win by 8 shots.

Triples: Paul Maskell John Warren Martin Harbottle  lost 12 - 25

Epsom led 9 - 6 after 9 ends, but were 12 - 15 down on end 15.  They dropped a total of 11 shots over the last 3 ends to lose by 13 shots.

Fours: Dennis King John Hart Bob Blaker Norman Mann lost 13 - 15

Epsom were 7 - 12 down after 9 ends & 8 - 14 behind on end 12. They won the next 5 ends to be 13 - 14 behind.  They lost the last end to lose by 2 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 2 Leatherhead 3  Epsom 73 shots  Leatherhead 80 shots.

Paul & Dennis played in their very first game in this Competition.

Did you know

This was the first time that these 2 clubs had met in the Bowls England Top Club. Epsom first entered this Competition in 2004.

Of our current members Martin Harbottle, Stefan Tomm & Les Owen played in this first game. Epsom beat Old Coulsdon 3 - 2 (they won the Two Wood, Singles & Pairs).  Epsom lost in the 3rd round to Cheam Village.

 

Ladies Friendly

Epsom played away against Carshalton on Thursday 4th May 2026 in a Triples game. They lost 22 - 32.

After 9 ends across the 2 rinks Epsom were 8 - 19 down & lost by 10 shots.

Details:

The scores were level 5 - 5 after 9 ends, but Epsom were 9 - 10 behind on end 15.  They lost by 2 shots.

Epsom were 3 - 14 down after 9 ends & lost by 8 shots.

Bowls England Ladies - Top Club

Epsom travelled away to play against Bookham in the Bowls England Top Club on Tuesday 2nd June 2026. They lost on all disciplines & the match 54 - 81.

Details:

Singles: Annette Jordan lost 15 - 21

Annette was 5 - 12 down after 9 ends, but drew level 15 - 15 on end 19. She lost the next 4 ends to lose by 6 shots.

Pairs: Sandy Cooper Christine Summerfield  lost 15 - 28

Epsom were 9 - 15 down after 9 ends & lost the next 4 ends to be 9 - 23 behind.  They lost by 13 shots.

Triples: Trish Southgate Mary Green Ruth Baker  lost 13 - 17

Epsom led 8 - 6 after 9 ends & 11 - 7 on end 12.  They lost the next 4 ends to go behind 11 - 17.  They lost by 4 shots

Fours: Penny Payne Sue Skinner Sandie Harvey Frances Suttonwood lost 11 - 15

Epsom led 8 - 4 after 9 ends, but were 10 - 12 down on end 15.  They lost by 4 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 54  Bookham 81

 

East Surrey League - Top Club

Epsom travelled away to play against Purley in the East Surrey League Top Club on Tuesday 2nd June 2026. The game did not take place because of bad weather.  Epsom won the toss. Epsom play Croydon in the next round.

 

Chrystie League

Epsom played in their very first Chrystie league game against Bookham on Monday 1st June 2026. They won on 1 rink, lost on 1 rink & won overall 33 - 27 (3 - 1). After 9 ends across the 2 rinks Epsom led 20 - 11 & by 5 shots (28 - 23)on ends 15.  They won by 6 shots.

Details:

Rink 2  Dennis King Terry Mears John Hart Phil Sims  lost 15 - 17

Epsom led 10 - 7 after 9 ends, but were 12 - 14 behind on end 15.  They went into the last end leading 15 - 14, but dropped 3 shots to lose by 2 shots.

Rink 3  James Henderson John Wellard Mick Cooper David Fearn  won 18 - 10

Epsom led 10 - 4 after 9 ends & 16 - 9 on end 15.  They won by 8 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 33 Bookham 27  Epsom 3 points Bookham 1 point

Dennis played in his very first Chrystie League match. He becomes the 93rd member of Epsom Bowling Club to play in this league.
