Vilamoura Mixed League

Epsom played their last Vilamoura Mixed League match against Wallington on Thursday 31st August 2017 and won at home and away and the match 44 - 18 (6 - 0).

Details:

Home: Sandra Huxford  Gill Sperring  Stefan Lukatschat  won 21 - 6

After 10 ends Epsom led 10 - 4 and stayed ahead for the rest of the afternoon.  They won by 15 shots.

Away:  Ruth Baker  John Hart  Simon Meller  won 23 - 12

Epsom got off to an excellent start when they led 9 - 0 after 5 ends.  They had a healthy lead, 17 - 4 after 12 ends and went on to win by 11 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 44  Wallington 18    Epsom 6 points  Wallington 0 points

Ladies' Friendly

The Ladies played Purley at home on Tuesday 29th August 2017 and won on both rinks & the match 58 - 29.

Details:

Rink 2  Sandra Huxford  Frances Suttonwood  Anne Hoffmann  Heather Pigden  won 25 - 19

This was certainly a game of two halves with Epsom being 6 - 16 down after 11 ends.  They then won the next 5 ends to draw level, 16 - 16 after 16 ends.  They dropped 3 shots on the next end, but bounced back to win the remaining ends to go on to win by 6 shots.

Rink 3  Audrey Jones  Jan Allum  Ruth Baker  Sylvia Smart  won 33 - 10

Epsom led 15 - 6 after 10 ends & dominated the rest of the game winning  7 of the ends to go on to win by 23 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 58  Purley 29

 

Sutton & District Bowling Association - Yonwin Cup

Epsom played against Sutton in the Semi Final of the Yonwin Cup on Tuesday 29th August 2017 and won on 1 rink, lost the other 2 & lost overall 45 - 59.

The game was played at Wallington (Neutral Green).

Details:

Rink 3  Brian Kenyon  Simon Meller  Les Owen Peter Miller    lost 17 - 27

Epsom started really poorly on this rink finding themselves 2 - 14 down after just 5 ends. They then came back into the game, but time after time were outdone by the Sutton skip.  After 15 ends they still trailed 10 - 22, but closed the gap to lose by 10 shots.

Rink 4  John Hart  Bob Blaker  John Warren  Jim Scott  lost 11 - 22

Epsom was 5 - 11 down after 10 ends and 8 - 17 behind after 15 ends.  They lost by 11 shots.

Rink 5  Dave Pearce  John Meningen  Terry Berry  Graham Naish  won 17 - 10

Epsom took the lead 8 - 5 on the 10th end and stayed ahead for the rest of the evening.  They won by 7 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 45  Sutton 59

Simon Meller played in his first Yonwin Cup match.

 

The Yonwin Cup has been running for 41 years. In this time Epsom have won 7 times & lost in 5 Finals. This is the 13th time that Epsom have reached the Semi Final of the Yonwin Cup.

Since 1976 Epsom have won 79 matches & lost 34. They have scored 6552 shots for & had 5936 shots scored against. The best recorded win is against Ewell in 2015 - 77 - 36 (41 shots).
Chipstead & Cuddington have won the Trophy on 8 occasions and Cheam 7 times.

 

Ladies' League Summary for 2017  (2016 figures in brackets)

 

There were 8 (8) games scheduled and 8 (8) played.  Of these 2 (3) were won and 6 (4) lost.   280 (253) shots were scored for and 334 (257) against.  The Ladies gained 9 (11 ) points.

Of the 16 (14) rinks played 5 (5) were won, 11 (9) lost.  The best win was 64 20 v Horley on 11th June & the best rink win was 48 6 in the same match.  14 (11) Ladies played this year in the League.

Audrey Jones & Eileen Mills played in all 8 matches. Anne Hoffmann, Ruth Baker, Gill Sperring & Heather Pigden in 7,  Sandra Huxford in 6 & Sylvia Smart in 5.

 

President v Secretary

The Annual President v Secretary match took place on Sunday 27th August 2017.  The Presidents team won 138 - 95. This match was played over 16 ends with 4 different disciplines. The 4 disciplines were as follows:-

1. The Yardstick - 1 point for every bowl that finishes within 1 yard of the centred jack.
2. 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - Like the game of 100 up with each of 4 bowls scoring.
3. Behind the Jack - Normal scoring applies but only for the bowls finishing behind the jack. NB if the jack is moved then reassess those bowls that were counting. Remove all of the bowls that finish in front.
4. Bowling the jack last - Everybody bowls to a position and then the winning team from the last end bowls the jack. Points are for the nearest to the jack.

East Surrey League - Ladies

Epsom Ladies played away against Godstone on Saturday 26th August 2017 in the East Surrey League.  They lost on both rinks & the match 21 - 56 (0 - 4).

Details:

Rink 3  Audrey Jones  Ruth Baker  Heather Pigden  Gill Sperring  lost 15 - 28

The scores were level, 14 - 14 after 14 ends, but Epsom then dropped a total of 14 shots over the next 6 ends to go behind 14 - 28.  They lost by 13 shots.

Rink 4  Frances Suttonwood Anne Hoffmann  Sandra Huxford  Eileen Mills  lost 6 - 28

Epsom had a disastrous start going 0 - 11 down after 5 ends.  They were outplayed from then on finally losing by 22 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 21  Godstone 56    Epso 0 points  Godstone 4 points

East Surrey League - Men

Epsom Men played away against Croydon on Saturday 26th August 2017 in the East Surrey League.  They won on three rinks, lost on the 4th by just 1 shot & won the match 89 - 72 (10 - 2).  This was the second match in a row that Epsom have won the match over the last 5 ends. In this match they outscored Croydon 26 - 7 over the 4 rinks during the last 5 ends.

Details:

Rink 2  Stefan Tomm  Keith Roberts  John Huxford  Jim Scott  won 31 - 16

This was certainly a game of two halves with Epsom struggling at 7 - 14 down after 10 ends. Of the remaining 11 ends Epsom won 9 of these outscoring Croydon 24 - 2 to go on to an excellent win by 15 shots.

Rink 3  Howard Ellis  John Hart  Andrew Turnbull  John Warren  lost 20 - 21

Epsom led 10 - 5 after 10 ends, but then lost the next 5 ends dropping a total of 13 shots to go behind 10 - 18.  They fought back well to level the scores going into the last end, but lost by just the 1 shot.

Rink 4  Dave Pearce  Bob Blaker  John Meningen  Terry Berry  won 15 - 13

The scores were level 9 - 9 after 12 ends, but they went behind 10 - 11 on the 14th end.  Of the remaining 7 ends only 1 shot was scored on each of these, but Epsom held the upper hand winning 5 of these to win by 2 shots.

Rink 5  Brian Kenyon  Simon Meller  Geoff Purrott  Peter Miller  won 23 - 22

Another close encounter with Epsom losing 9 - 12 on the 10th end.  A count of 5 on the 13th end put Epsom ahead, but they immediately lost the lead dropping the next 3 ends.  Going into the 19th end Epsom trailed by 5 shots, but scored a 3, 2 & 1 to snatch a 1 shot victory.

Final Score:  Epsom 89  Croydon 72   Epsom 10 points  Croydon 2 points

The winning margin on rink 2 beats the previous highest shots difference win on a rink against Croydon.

 

Ladies Friendly

Epsom Ladies played away against Ashtead on Tuesday 22nd August 2017 in a Friendly Triples Match  They won on 1 rink lost on the other & lost the match 29 - 33.

Details:

After 12 ends Epsom led 14 - 5, but then lost the next 4 ends allowing Ashtead to draw level 14 - 14.  Epsom won by 2 shots.

Rink 3  Jan Allum  Anne Hoffmann  Sandra Huxford  lost 12 - 18

After 13 ends Epsom was 5 - 17 down, but won the next 4 ends to be 5 shots behind, 12 - 17.  They lost by 6 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 29  Ashtead 33

 

East Surrey League - Ladies

Epsom Ladies played away against Shirley Park on Saturday 19th August 2017 in the East Surrey League.  They lost on both rinks & the match 37 - 64 (0 - 4).

Details:

Epsom was 19 - 23 behind after 15 ends and lost by 8 shots.

Epsom was 11 - 23 down after 15 ends finally losing by 19 shots.

East Surrey League - Men

Epsom Men played away against Horley on Saturday 19th August 2017 in the East Surrey League.  They won on two rinks, lost on 2 rinks & the match 94 - 87 (8 - 4). It is often said that games can change drastically over the last 5  ends & this was certainly the case in this match. Epsom was behind overall up to including the 18th end.  However, over the last 5 ends Epsom outscored Horley 37 - 14 to win by 7 shots.

Details:

Epsom dominated this rink all afternoon.  They led 22 - 12 after 156 ends and went on to score a total of 20 shots over the last 5 ends to win by 30 shots.

Rink 4  Stefan Tomm  Keith Roberts  John Warren  Jim Scott  lost 14 - 26

Epsom trailed by 15 shots after 15 ends (6 - 21), and finally lost by 12 shots.

Rink 5  Peter Salmon  Geoff Purrott  Martin Harbottle  Graham Naish  lost 8 - 32

Epsom was outplayed on this rink, particularly by the Horley skip.  Epsom lost by 24 shots.

Rink 6  Dave Pearce  Bob Blaker  John Meningen  Terry Berry  won 30 - 17

Epsom was in control of this rink al afternoon.  They led 18 - 15 after 15 ends and went on to win by 13 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 94  Horley 87   Epsom 8 points  Horley 4 points

The 42 - 12 win on rink 3 is the highest winning margin against Horley and the 8 - 32 loss is the worst defeat by a rink against Horley.

 

Past Times - Epsom 'A'

Epsom 'A' played Supreme on Friday 18th August 2017 in the Semi Final of the Past Times Competition and won at home, lost away and lost overall 38 - 40.

Epsom was 10 - 5 ahead after 10 ends, but went behind 11 - 13 on the 15th end.  They still trailed 12 - 16 going into 19th end, but picked up a count of 7 to take the lead on the 19th end.  They won by 2 shots.

Away:  Dave Pearce  Peter Salmon  Les Owen Terry Berry  lost 18 - 22

Epsom was behind 9 - 11 on the 10th end, but went ahead 15 - 13 on the 15th end.  They then dropped the next 3 ends to go behind 15 - 21.  They lost by 4 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 38  Supreme 40

 

East Surrey League - Ladies

Epsom Ladies played away against Caterham on Thursday 17th August 2017 in the East Surrey League.  They lost on both rinks & the match 29 - 52 (0 - 4).

Details:

This was a high scoring rink with Epsom trailing 9 - 14 after 10 ends.  After 15 ends they were further behind,

15 - 23, but finished strongly to lose by just 4 shots.

Rink 2  Audrey Jones  Anne Hoffmann  Sylvia Smart  Eileen Mills  lost 6 - 25

Epsom was outplayed on this rink finding themselves 4 - 12 down after 10 ends.  Epsom only scored 2 more shots to lose by 19 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 29  Caterham 52   Epsom 0 points  Caterham 4 points

 

Men's Friendly v Ashtead

Epsom Men played away against Ashtead on Tuesday 15th August 2017 in a Triples match.  They won on 3 rinks, lost on the 4th and won overall 92 - 39.

Details:

Rink 2  Bob Lister  Frank Thompson  Fred Read  won 29 - 5

Epsom dominated this rink when Ashtead only scored on 4 ends.  Epsom led 14 - 5 after 12 ends and won the remaining 6 ends scoring a total of 14 shots to win by 24 shots.

Rink 3  Bill Lawrence  Phil Sims  John Hart  lost 16 - 17

Epsom led 11 - 1 after 7 ends, but allowed Ashtead back into the game dropping 11 shots over the next 4 ends to go behind 11 - 12. Going into the last end Epsom was 14 - 17 adrift, but managed just 2 shots to lose by 1 shot.

Rink 4  Derek Martin  Ken Lacey  Peter Miller  won 29 - 10

This was a similar story to rink 2 with Ashtead only scoring on 5 ends.  Epsom led 10 - 5 after 9 ends and then scored 19 shots without reply over the next 7 ends.  They won by 19 shots.

Rink 5  Mike James  Geoff Purrott  Keith Roberts  won 18 - 7

After 12 ends the scores were level, 6 - 6, but Epsom won the next 3 ends to go ahead 14 - 6.  They won by 11 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 92  Ashtead 39

 

Vilamoura Mixed League

On Monday 14th August 2017 Epsom played Carshalton Beeches in the Vilamoura Mixed League and won at home and away and won overall 38 - 30 (6 - 0).

Details:

Home:  Janet Newman  Geoff Purrott  David Bragg  won 18 - 13

After 9 ends Epsom was 6 - 8 down, but immediately took the lead on the next end and went further ahead 18 - 10 on the 15th end.  They won by 5 shots.

Away:  Sandra Huxford  Howard Ellis  Andrew Turnbull  won 20 - 17

After 10 ends Epsom trailed 8 - 12, but fought back well to take the lead 17 - 16 on the 15th end.  With two ends to go the scores were level 17 - 17, but Epsom went on to win by 3 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 38  Carshalton Beeches 30   Epsom 6 points  Carshalton Beeches 0 points

 

Men's Friendly v Surrey Patrons

Epsom Men played the Surrey Patrons at home on Sunday 13th August 2017This game was reduced to 2 Rinks & 2 Triples.  Epsom won on all 4 rinks & the match 83 - 49.

Details:

After 10 ends the scores were level, 8 - 8, but Epsom then lost the lead to go behind 8 - 10 on the 12th end. They won the next 3 ends to go ahead 17 - 10 and went on to win by 8 shots.

Rink 3  Les Owen Stefan Tomm  Geoff Purrott  John Warren  won 25 - 10

Epsom was behind 5 - 6 on the 8th end, but then won the next 6 ends to go 17 - 6 ahead.  They continued to dominate the game and won by 15 shots.

Rink 5  Mike James  Phil Sims  Andrew Turnbull  won 20 - 14

Epsom had a good lead, 13 - 5 after 10 ends and were still ahead by 6 shots on the 15th end (18 - 12).  They won by 6 shots.

Rink 6  David Ganney  Peter Humphreys  Simon Meller   won 18 - 13

Epsom struggled for 13 ends on this rink finding themselves 7 - 13 adrift.  However, they won the remaining 5 ends scoring a total of 11 shots to win by 5 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 83  Surrey Patrons  49

 

East Surrey League - Men

Epsom played away at Cheam on Saturday 12th August 2017 & won on 3 rinks lost on 1 rink and won overall 75 - 63 (10 - 2).  This turned out to be a very close match all afternoon.  Epsom held a 2 shot advantage over the 4 rinks after 10 ends (47 - 45), but the game was won over the last 4 ends across the 4 rinks when Epsom outscored Cheam 18 - 6.  This was an excellent result considering Cheam beat Epsom at home earlier in the season.  This victory gives Epsom 5 wins in a row and scoring 56 out of 60 points available.

Details:

As the final score suggests this was a very close game particularly over the second half.  After 10 ends Epsom led 8 - 5 and extended this to 12 - 6 after 14 ends.  Cheam fought back well to level the scores on the 20th end - 13 - 13.  Epsom faced 2 shots down when the skips went to play, but Les with his first bowl ditched the jack to hold one shot.  This remained the shot leaving Epsom winners by just 1 shot.

Rink 4  Stefan Tomm  Simon Meller  John Warren  Graham Naish  won 26 - 16

On the 8th end Epsom scored a count of 6 to go one shot behind 10 - 11.  After 15 ends they were 14 - 15 down, but outscored Cheam 12 - 1 over the remaining ends to win by 10 shots.

Rink 5  David Bragg  Andrew Turnbull  John Huxford  Peter Miller  won 25 - 16

Epsom was 7 - 9 down after 10 ends, but drew level 13 - 13 on the 16th end.  They immediately dropped 3 shots, but won the last 4 ends to win  by 9 shots.

Rink 6  Dave Pearce  Bob Blaker  John Meningen  Terry Berry  lost 10 - 18

Epsom was behind all afternoon.  They were 4 - 7 down after 10 ends, but came to be behind, 9 - 10 on the 15th end.  Cheam won 5 of the last 6 ends leaving Epsom losing by 8 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 75  Cheam 63    Epsom 10 points  Cheam 2 points

 

Vilamoura Mixed League

On Friday 11th August 2017 Epsom played Epsom Park in the Vilamoura Mixed League and won at home lost away and lost overall 24 - 35 (2 - 4).

Details:

Home:  Phil Sims  Ron Snow  Eileen Mills  won 17 - 15

This was a very close game all afternoon.  After 10 ends Epsom led 10 - 9, but it was level 3 ends later, 12 - 12.  On the 14th end Epsom Park went ahead 12 - 15, but Epsom won the last 4 ends to win by 2 shots.

Away:  Graham Coleman  Sylvia Smart  Fred Read   lost 7 - 20

Not a good afternoon for Epsom.  They were 4 - 14 down after 10 ends & only scored 3 more shots to lose by 13 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 24  Epsom Park 35    Epsom 2 points  Epsom Park 4 points

 

Chrystie League 2017

Last years figures in brackets.

This year Epsom won 8 (5), lost 2 (5) & drew 0 (0).  Epsom ended up gaining 32 (20) points and came 1st (3rd) in the League.

In all 18 (15) members represented Epsom in the Chrystie League in 2017.  The following are some significant appearances:-

Fred Read 10, Bob Blaker 8, Phil Sims Brian Kenyon 7, Graham Coleman, Howard Ellis, Bill Lawrence & Derek Martin 6.

 

Here are some facts that you may find interesting from 2017:- (2016 data in brackets)

 

Number of rinks won - 15 (8) Number of rinks lost - 3 (9) Number of rinks drawn - 2 (1).  Epsom won 7 (3) of the games 4 - 0 and lost 1 (2) games 4 - 0.  Both losses were against Leatherhead.

The best match win was 43 - 16 (+27) against Brockham on the 12th June and the worst defeat came against Leatherhead 26 - 35 (-9) on the 3rd July.

The best rink win was a 24 - 8 victory against Brockham on 12th June & the worst defeat on a rink was the

14 21 (-7) loss against Leatherhead on 3rd July.

The highest total shots scored in a match was on 24th July against Brockham when the combined score was 68 shots (45 - 23).

The lowest combined total of shots scored was 32, (25 - 7), in the match against Bookham on 27th June (rain affected).

Epsom scored 334 shots for & there were 217 shots scored against in 2017.  The total points was 32.  When Epsom won the League in 2004 they gained 35 points.

 

To date since 2001 Ken Lacey has played in 95 matches, Fred Read 86, Ron Snow 78  Bob Lister 62 &

Bill Lawrence 55. 

The number of members who have played in the Chrystie League since 2001 is 57. 

Graham Coleman, Stefan Lukatschat & Keith Roberts made their debuts in 2017.

 

A little bit of history:-

Since the Chrystie League began in 2001 Epsom have played 159 matches.  Of these 89 have been won, 67 lost, 5 drawn and 9 cancelled.  One match was conceded in 2016. 5080 shots have been scored for and 4720 shots against.

 

The highest number of shots scored in a season was in 2004 (386) when Epsom were the Champions.  The most shots scored against in a year was in 2010 - 327.

 

Since 2001 Epsom have a very good record in this league, winning in 2004 & 2017, and 2nd in 2003, 2005, 2006 & 2013.

 

Vilamoura Mixed League

On Tuesday 8th August 2017 Epsom played Warlingham in the Vilamoura Mixed League and won at home and away.  They won overall 48 - 29 (6 - 0).

Details:

Home:  Bill Lawrence  Sandra Huxford  Bob Blaker  won 24 - 14

After 9 ends Epsom led 11 - 7 and went further ahead 22 - 11 on the 15th end.  They went on to win by 10 shots.

Away:  Stefan Tomm  Heather Pigden  Simon Meller  won 24 - 15

On the 4th end Epsom scored the maximum 9 shots to go ahead 13 - 3.  They still had a good lead, 19 - 7 after 10 ends and were leading 23 - 12 after 15 ends.  Epsom won by 9 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 48  Warlingham 29

 

Chrystie League

Epsom played their last Chrystie League match at home against Leatherhead on Monday 7th August 2017 and drew on 1 rink, lost on the second & lost overall 26 - 29 ( - 3). This match had a very exciting climax with both rinks being decided on the last end.

Details:

Rink 1   Brian Kenyon  Ken Lacey  Stefan Lukatschat Fred Read  drew 15 - 15

Epsom took the lead for the first time on end 10 (7 - 6).  However, they went behind 9 - 10 on the 15th end, but then scored 4 shots on the next end to regain the lead.  Going into the last end Epsom held a 5 shot advantage, but dropped a count of 5 to draw the rink.

Rink 2  Derek Martin  Bill Lawrence  Andrew Turnbull   Bob Blaker  lost 11 - 14

Epsom was behind throughout the evening right up to the 17th end when they drew level 11 - 11.  They dropped 3 shots on the last end.

Final Score:  Epsom 26  Leatherhead 29    Epsom point  Leatherhead 3 points

 

Mixed Friendly

Epsom played Bletchingley at home on Sunday 6th August 2017 in a Triples match and won on 2 rinks, lost on 2 rinks and lost overall 50 - 56.

Details:

Rink 2  Brian Collis  Phil Sims  Cyril Newman  won 17 - 10

After 10 ends Epsom trailed 6 - 8, but were ahead 13 - 10 after 15 ends.  They won the last 3 ends going on to win by 7 shots.

Rink 3  Bill Lawrence  Andrew Turnbull  Roy Ward  lost 10 - 11

This was a very low scoring game with 15 of the ends scoring only 1 shot. Epsom was 5 - 6 behind after 10 ends, but going into the last end they led 10 - 9.  They dropped 2 shots on the final end to lose narrowly by 1 shot.

Rink 4  Audrey Jones  Sylvia Smart Stefan Lukatschat    won 14 - 10

Epsom had a good lead, 10 - 3, after 10 ends and were still ahead 13 - 8 after 15 ends.  They won by 4 shots.

Rink 5  Stefan Tomm  Heather Pigden  Peter Humphreys  lost 9 - 25

After 7 ends Epsom led 7 - 5, but failed to score again for the next ends when they found themselves 7 - 23 behind. They lost by 16 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 50  Bletchingley 56

 

Ladies' Friendly

Epsom Ladies played at home against Epsom Park on Thursday 3rd August 2017 & won on 1 rink, lost on 1 rink and won overall 32 - 27.

After 7 ends Epsom was 6 - 7 down and got stuck on 6 for the next 6 ends finding themselves 6 - 18 behind.  They outscored Epsom Park 7 - 1 over the last 5 ends and lost by 6 shots.

Epsom took the lead, 9 - 5 on the 10th end and dominated the rest of the game outscoring Epsom Park 10 3 to go on to win by 11 shots.

Epsom ladies travelled to Wallington on Saturday 5th August 2017 and won on 1 rink, lost on 1 rink and lost overall 35 - 41 (1 - 3).

Epsom was 7 - 12 behind after 10 ends & further behind 9 - 22 after 18 ends.  They lost by 9 shots.

Rink 2  Sandie Harvey  Ruth Nixon  Sylvia Smart  Gill Sperring  won 21 - 18

Epsom led all afternoon on this rink.  They led 12 - 8 after 10 ends & 19 - 17 after 18 ends.  They won by 3 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 1 point  Wallington 3 points

East Surrey League

Epsom men travelled the short distance to Cheam Fields on Saturday 5th August 2017 and won on 3 rinks, lost on 1 rink and won overall 91 - 59 (10 - 2).  Although in the end this was a very good win Epsom really struggled across 3 of the rinks for 12 ends when the overall score was Epsom 41  Cheam Fields 47.  However, these 3 rinks came back really well to enable Epsom to get this good win.

Epsom played really well on this rink and were 13 - 3 ahead after 10 ends.  After 15 ends they forged further ahead 22 - 4 and went on to win by 19 shots.

Rink 4  Stefan Tomm Simon Meller  John Warren  Peter Miller  won 19 - 17

Epsom lost the lead, 6 - 10 on the 8th end and found themselves 12 - 15 behind after 15 ends.  Going into the last end they trailed by 2 shots, but managed to score a count of 4 to snatch a win by 2 shots.

Rink 5  Peter Salmon  John Hart  Martin Harbottle  Graham Naish  lost 17 - 22

Epsom really struggled on this rink finding themselves 8 - 14 adrift after 10 ends.  They fell further behind, 11 - 22 after 16 ends, but won the last 5 ends to narrow the loss by 5 shots.

Rink 6  Dave Pearce  Bob Blaker  John Meningen  Terry Berry  won 26 - 10

This turned out to be an extraordinary game with Epsom 0 - 8 behind after 5 ends.  However, Cheam Fields failed to score again leaving Epsom 12 - 10 ahead after 15 ends and then scoring 14 more shots to win by 16 shots.

Past Times

Epsom 'A' played against Old Coulsdon 'A' on Thursday 3rd August 2017 and lost at home, but won away and won overall 44 - 42.  This was an excellent win against a very strong Old Coulsdon team.  This win puts Epsom 'A' in the Semi Final.

Epsom was behind all evening. After 12 ends they were 11 - 16 down, but narrowed the gap to 2 shots on the 15th end.  However, Old Coulsdon then dominated the final ends leaving Epsom losing by 13 shots. 

Away:   Dave Pearce  Peter Salmon  Les Owen Terry Berry    won 28 - 13

This was an excellent performance by Epsom at Old Coulsdon against a particularly strong rink. Epsom led from the start and were 10 - 7 ahead after 10 ends. After 15 ends Epsom went further ahead 18 - 12 and outscored Old Coulsdon 10 shots to 1 over the remaining ends to win by 15 shots.  It was not realised until after the game that going into the last end the scores were level.
