Epsom visit Box Bowling Club in Bath on Friday 31st July 2015

Click on photos for larger version

43 Epsom bowlers descended on the sleepy Wiltshire village of Box to play bowls and were treated to a simply splendid day. Not only were our hosts very good bowlers (their ladies have got to Leamington) but their hospitality was astonishing.
We were treated to a splendid light lunch, a very cheap bar, and then a very good evening meal before re embarking on our coach, driven by John Huxford back to Epsom.
As for the match we won on 3 rinks, lost on 3 rinks, and just emerged the overall winners by 7 shots. During the game 6 members changing at 11 ends to ensure all played.
Several of our lady travellers went into Bath for some shopping before returning for the evening meal.

All in all a very, very good day. We look forward to the return match next year.

Thanks to David Sowdon for organising the trip and to John Huxford for driving the coach.

New Arrival at Epsom Bowling Club

You may have noticed recently that we have a Minibus parked at the rear of the club house. This is a new venture for the club.

The mini bus has been purchased by 12 members of the Metropolitan Police (serving and retired officers). The main function is so all 12 can travel twice a year to the Battlefields WW1. The Group have been walking the battlefields for the last 15 years.

They wish to offer the minibus to Epsom Bowling club to go to matches and outings as the club has been very generous in allowing us to park at the club.

In return the group would allow the club to use the Mini Bus at a very reduced cost, subject to drivers with the correct category on their driving licences, and a test by myself.

The cost of insuring the Mini Bus may be about £600 a year plus the road tax, and these costs will be covered by the group.

If any other groups ask to use the Mini Bus they will have to make a larger donation than Epsom Bowling Club.

A sign will be put on the side of the Mini Bus indicating that Epsom Bowling is sponsoring the vehicle.
