The SCBA, having been formed in 1911 held an inter County Trophy called The John Bull Cup. This was competed for up until 1921 when a Surrey man, P C Middleton of Northwood BC presented to the EBA The Middleton Cup by the instigation of Mr JW(?) Grant of the same club and the Hon Treasurer of Surrey.

The winning County will hold the "Middleton Cup" and the runners up the "Brooks Trophy".  24 Medals are given to the winners & runners up.  24 Medals are also given to the losing County semi finalists. (each County may award not exceeding four additional Medals for other players or reserves).

Surrey have won The Middleton Cup on 18 occasions and been runners up on 9 occasions.
